Anton Filz
During the time of Napoleon I, Anton Filz establishes a soap-making workshop at the Wiener Graben. He creates his own creams, soaps, pomades, cosmetics and fragrant waters.
Top notes that touch hearts – soon, the family-owned perfumery Filz becomes an integral part of the scene.
1815
Congress of Vienna
While the city dances like a fairground, the Filz perfumery experiences its first golden age. Cheerfulness. Guests from all over the world, nights of lavish balls, three-quarter time waltzes. Refreshment and an open ear are found at Filz.
Johann Baptist Filz captures the spirit of that era in his “Viennese Favorite Scent.” The waltz continues to resonate to this day.
1830 – 1840
Fragrant Journey across Europe
Johann Baptist Filz – namesake, visionary, inheritor of tradition at just 18 years old. On his extensive travels, he imports the scents of distant London and Paris via stagecoach. Cosmopolitan. High-quality cosmetic products and Viennese charm are shipped as far as Budapest.
1872
Purveyor to the Court
Fragrant treasures and loving consultation abound – cherished by high society for decades, the Viennese court now discovers J.B. Filz. Regal and imperial. Wilhelm Filz is bestowed with the highest honor: the appointment as k.u.k. Court Perfumer.
Empress Sisi discovers the violet water. A love that endures.

Change of Sides
Time for change. The move to the south side of Graben brings a breath of fresh air. The loyal clientele is delighted; after a fragrant journey at J.B. Filz, one can stroll refreshed on the cooler, shaded side of the popular shopping street. Viennese elegance – balm for the soul.

Women Power
After the war years, Gertrude Filz took over the management of the perfumery for the first time – not entirely common at that time. Female elegance. This tradition would continue for three generations.

200 Years of J.B. Filz
